- ➤ Veterans Day on November 11th will honor American veterans who defended our freedoms in wars past and remind us of the sacrifice required to protect our way of life. In Teller County, where one in four men and one in nine women are veterans, local organizations and schools are planning events—inviting residents to thank these local heroes. - ➤ Today the Pikes Peak Library District is hosting a food drive called 'PPLD Cares' to help local non-profits affected by the government shutdown by accepting non-perishable donations at its Colorado Springs locations until December 15—items needed include canned fruit, vegetables, soup, meat or tuna, peanut butter, cereal, oatmeal, pre-packaged snacks, and boxed dinners. - ➤ Vogl Homestead Farm in Black Forest is hosting its sixth annual Great Pumpkin Rescue to collect pumpkins for sheep feed and compost, and the farm hopes to recycle about 1,000 pumpkins this year plus drop-off sites are available at Limbaugh Park, Swing Park, and Sanctuary Pointe Park in Monument. - ➤ Ridgeway Trail in Stratton Open Space offers a 2.2-mile hike with humbling views of Cheyenne Mountain — the path starts at the parking lot off Ridgeway Avenue and leads past meadows and fenced-off reservoirs, drawing dog walkers, runners and families.
