COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Veterans Day on November 11th will honor American veterans who defended our freedoms in wars past and remind us of the sacrifice required to protect our way of life. In Teller County, where one in four men and one in nine women are veterans, local organizations and schools are planning events—inviting residents to thank these local heroes.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Today the Pikes Peak Library District is hosting a food drive called 'PPLD Cares' to help local non-profits affected by the government shutdown by accepting non-perishable donations at its Colorado Springs locations until December 15—items needed include canned fruit, vegetables, soup, meat or tuna, peanut butter, cereal, oatmeal, pre-packaged snacks, and boxed dinners.  KOAA News5
  • Vogl Homestead Farm in Black Forest is hosting its sixth annual Great Pumpkin Rescue to collect pumpkins for sheep feed and compost, and the farm hopes to recycle about 1,000 pumpkins this year plus drop-off sites are available at Limbaugh Park, Swing Park, and Sanctuary Pointe Park in Monument. The event allows locals to contribute pumpkins in any condition at these designated sites.  KOAA News5
  • Local nonprofits in Colorado Springs are inviting community members to explore volunteer opportunities starting today, with organizations like the American Cancer Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters providing contact details—email submissions must be sent at least two weeks in advance.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Salvation Army's Family Hope Center in Colorado Springs is reopening five shelter rooms as overnight temperatures drop—$50,000 from the Colorado Springs Rotary Club supported the effort. The center had closed 15 rooms and laid off 10 staff due to a budget shortfall and helped more than 277 families last year.  KOAA News5

  • The City of Colorado Springs filed planning documents last week for Project Manitou, a 566,200‑square‑foot beverage facility to be built at Peak Innovation Park on a 50.5‑acre site near the airport. The facility is scheduled to open in 2028 and will employ 390 people—making it the second largest project at the campus after Amazon’s fulfillment center.  Colorado Springs Business Journal
  • FOX21 News teamed with the Colorado Business Forum and Digest as Dirk Hobbs discussed plans for the 18th Annual Veterans Conference — a business event offering opportunities for veterans to start new ventures and connecting entrepreneurship with service in southern Colorado.  Colorado Springs Business Journal
  • In October, the Colorado Economic Development Commission approved $1.8 million in tax credits for an unnamed semiconductor packaging plant in Colorado Springs—its planned expansion is set to boost capacity.  Colorado Springs Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ridgeway Trail in Stratton Open Space offers a 2.2-mile hike with humbling views of Cheyenne Mountain — the path starts at the parking lot off Ridgeway Avenue and leads past meadows and fenced-off reservoirs, drawing dog walkers, runners and families. The trail is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. in November–March and until 10 p.m. in April–October.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade urged community members, nonprofits, faith leaders, and businesses to support local food banks amid a freeze on SNAP benefits caused by a government shutdown—local agencies such as Care and Share Food Bank and Food to Power remain ready to assist residents in need.  Colorado Springs Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Four closed Walgreens in Colorado Springs are under review for new tenants such as gyms, specialty grocers, or libraries—experts and local residents say the flexible spaces may boost neighborhood services. A former Walgreens on West Colorado Avenue will become a Planet Fitness opening Dec. 13, while other sites will soon be evaluated.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Air Force women’s soccer received Mountain West honors on Monday—sophomore Annika Jost was named Player of the Year, coach Laura Busby earned Coach of the Year, and players Peyton Ferrell and Jordan Dillingham made the All-Mountain West First Team.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Air Force women won a 59 to 50 season-opening game at Denver University after freshman Maddy Jensen entered late and shot perfectly to help build the lead. Point guard Jordyn DeVaughn started her first game in two years and scored key fourth-quarter points—coach Stacy McIntyre said strong defense paved the way for the team's win.  Colorado Springs Gazette
