If you run a small business here, or just love shopping at one, you've got a new bragging point. Online banking platform named Colorado Springs the No. 1 city in the U.S. for small businesses, out of 100 metropolitan areas. Mayor Yemi Mobolade said small businesses are the backbone of the economy and the heart of the city's neighborhoods.

Bluevine's study used data from more than 200,000 active Bluevine accounts plus government data. Colorado was the only state with three metros in the top 15. Colorado Springs led on Bluevine customer measures, with account openings up 133% from a year ago.

  • Categories: survival, growth, cost of business, and Bluevine banking data
  • Cost of doing business: ranked in the bottom half
  • Top-10 finishes: one of only five metros with two

Slice 420 owner Christian Patriarca recently opened a downtown location after nine years in business. His take on the city's secret: "The people. Just the community."

The Pikes Peak economy is holding up well, the UCCS Economic Forum report says

If you've wondered how the local economy is doing, the 30th annual report has an answer. Bill Craighead, the forum's director, told The Gazette, "The Colorado Springs economy is holding up well." The report notes some recovery in jobs numbers and Colorado Springs sales tax collections, plus modest gains in housing.

  • Unemployment peaked at 4.4% in the second half of 2024
  • Since May 2025: below the national rate
  • Concern: low workforce participation among parents of young children
  • Concern: a federal deficit could limit defense spending

At the forum, Mayor Yemi Mobolade said Colorado Springs adds about six new residents a day, even as several major Colorado cities lost population. Johnna Reeder Kleymeyer, who leads the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, said Colorado is the sixth most regulated state in the country and that businesses with choices "don't have to be here."
