Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 15th of September.
Good morning, Colorado Springs.
Families who once called Conejos home gathered Saturday at the Pioneers Museum to mark the five-year anniversary of the neighborhood exhibit—residents shared memories of a close-knit community that was replaced by America the Beautiful Park in the early 2000s.
The HerPlace Foundation held its first HERplace Market on Saturday just off Costilla Street where 20 booths run by women entrepreneurs offered baked goods, clothing, jewelry and woodworking pieces—military spouses also sold products at the event.
Refreshments and live music added appeal despite earlier rain, and the founder plans to make the market an annual event.
At an AP exam scoring event in Cleveland, Colorado educators debated whether AI should replace traditional methods in classrooms — some argued that relying on digital tools could undermine basic writing skills while others have already begun integrating it into teaching, and a retired professor predicted that AI might fully take over scoring in four or five years.
Palmer Lake voters passed an ordinance Tuesday that now requires public votes for annexations, and Colorado Springs city council is discussing whether a similar rule should apply here.
Council members Donelson, Henjum, and Risley said annexations are hard to decide—big deals may need a vote while small ones could be approved by council—so they will study the idea further.
