About this event
The Monthly Sound Bath at Root is a recurring group experience at Root Center for Yoga & Sacred Studies rooted in the yogic tradition of Nāda Yoga - sometimes referred to as the Yoga of Sacred Sound. Guided by John and Geoffrey, these immersive gatherings explore deep listening as a doorway into presence, remembrance, and the direct experience of wholeness.
Within this tradition, sound is understood as neither noise nor merely something we hear, but as a vehicle through which awareness of both the outer world and the subtle dimensions of inner experience can be cultivated. The Sanskrit term nāda may be understood as sound, tone, or resonance, and through the practice of Nāda Yoga, listening itself becomes an opportunity for cultivating awareness.
Through the resonant tones of crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, Tibetan gong, Koshi chimes, handpan, and other instruments, each gathering explores the relationship between vibration, deep listening, and embodied awareness. Guided by John and Geoffrey, each experience is intuitively shaped by the energies of the moment rather than following a fixed sequence.
Emerging research supports sound-based contemplative practices as an opportunity to access the very real experience of timelessness, within which nervous system regulation and deep restoration can and do occur. As sound unfolds, awareness may gradually move away from the ordinary demands of chronological time and toward a more spacious experience of simply being present.
Each monthly gathering may take on its own character through the instruments, sounds, themes, and energies present in the moment. Yet the underlying practice remains the same: to listen deeply, to become present, and to explore what becomes possible when we create space for sound, silence, and awareness to meet.
What begins as listening to sound can ultimately become an opportunity for listening within.
