The tax is 33 cents on each $100 spent. It skips food, gasoline, residential electricity and gas, prescription drugs and medical supplies. It aims to raise nearly $300 million, mostly for the southern leg from Denver to Pueblo. Full service south through Colorado Springs to Pueblo is scheduled to follow within five years of the initial launch, which is targeted for 2029.

“We're going to bring Pueblo to Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs to Denver and Denver to Boulder and Fort Collins.”
