- ➤ The Springs Rescue Mission hosted its annual Christmas Banquet on Tuesday and served over 500 free meals + clothing to homeless guests at its downtown resource campus on West Las Vegas Street. The nonprofit will serve additional meals and hand out care packages today and on Christmas. KOAA News5
- ➤ Residents and visitors can join the VIP New Year’s Eve fireworks event at North Slope Recreation Area and Crystal Reservoir next Wednesday, Dec. 31, where Pikes Peak Ranger staff will guide guests from the Crystal Reservoir Visitor Center parking area at 10:30 p.m., with chats and refreshments available. - ➤ The full 3-mile Sinton Trail has reopened following summer improvements on its surface, drainage, and removal of an old waterline. City officials say the upgrades boost long-term durability + accessibility for local trail users. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ El Paso County in collaboration with the city, Utilities and Youth Sports is offering TreeCycle to recycle real Christmas trees into mulch while each tree drop supports local youth sports with a required $5 donation. - ➤ Harrison High student Zariea Patrick faces a recurring brain tumor and will resume her weekly chemotherapy on Jan. 9. - ➤ El Paso County's Facilities & Strategic Infrastructure Management Department added motorcycle lanes in the Sahwatch and Costilla parking garages in downtown Colorado Springs that opened Tuesday to improve motorcyclist safety and eliminate ticket scanning. KOAA News5
- ➤ In November, COS Airport experienced a 5.6% drop in passengers partly due to a federal shutdown and FAA restrictions — 74 flights were canceled and almost 11,000 fewer passengers passed through the terminal, with Southwest flights down nearly 12%. KOAA News5

- ➤ Children's Hospital Colorado shared holiday photos of NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) babies dressed in festive attire to help families celebrate milestones, including twins preparing for their first Christmas. KOAA News5
- ➤ Flu hospitalizations in the county have more than tripled from this week last year with 465 cases reported statewide. Travelers at the Colorado Springs Airport are urged to take precautions like hand washing and covering coughs & sneezes to help limit the spread. KOAA News5
- ➤ The CSFD has seen a rise in lithium-ion battery fires—around 30 major incidents in five years—and advises parents buying electronics for kids to follow proper charging and recycling guidelines. Residents should inspect devices regularly to prevent dangerous overheating. 11 News
