  • Colorado Springs Airport launched FlyMyAirport on its website to help travelers search for flights and compare prices (streamlining the planning process). The new tool offers a simple way to explore travel options.  KOAA News5

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bare Bones Trombone Choir will hold a free Trombone Christmas concert on Dec. 21 at Sunrise United Methodist Church at 4:00 p.m. All trombonists (high school level and up) may join, with an optional rehearsal on Dec. 20 at First Lutheran Church and RSVP on Facebook.  KOAA News5

  • Pikes Peak Library District will host an Intro to Snowshoeing Class on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at its 21C location on Chapel Hills Drive — the class will cover techniques, current designs, and local spots, with registration opening Jan. 8.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Lewis-Palmer District 38 resumed classes Wednesday after a one-day shutdown sparked by a potential threat (no credible risk was found) and officials noted extra police presence for reassurance through the week.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North America's largest wildlife overpass is now open north of Monument on I-25 in southern Douglas County. The $15 million bridge connects 39,000 acres of habitat to help reduce wildlife-vehicle crashes.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Gov. Jared Polis issued an executive order Monday to form a task force protecting Colorado forests from a pine beetle outbreak, with Dan Gibbs, Matt McCombs, and Mike Morgan (state environmental officials) leading efforts to develop strategies for water, outdoor recreation and wildfire mitigation.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced unincorporated areas are under Stage I fire restrictions starting at noon Wednesday, limiting open burning, fireworks, and outdoor smoking until conditions are reviewed on Monday, Dec. 22.  KOAA News5
  • The City of Colorado Springs completed the Prospect Lake Aeration Project at Memorial Park to improve water quality and reduce harmful algae blooms. The new ARPA-funded system (approx. $450,000) now supports year-round recreation and a healthier lake ecosystem.  KOAA News5

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Colorado Springs hospital is set to introduce a new surgical tool that aims to improve procedures and patient care. The hospital expects the tool to boost operating efficiency as rollout details remain forthcoming.  11 News
  • A new pilot program is testing wastewater at treatment facilities in Woodland Park, Cripple Creek, Colorado Springs and Fountain to monitor opioid traces and guide prevention measures; the project began in October under the Pikes Peak Region 16 Opioid Abatement Council, which uses the data to shape funding and resource allocation.  Colorado Springs Gazette
