- ➤ The PLACE, a local nonprofit, has shifted its approach to help homeless youth by closing its shelter and opening The Launchpad at 864 N. 19th St.—a housing facility offering 50 apartments on one-year leases with supportive services. - ➤ The Salvation Army Colorado Springs Corps is asking for sealed, store-bought or cooked pies for its free Thanksgiving Day community meal — the group needs 500 pies after its usual sponsor fell through. - ➤ Colorado Parks and Wildlife released a draft strategy to boost beaver populations and wetland habitats until social and ecological limits are reached. - ➤ Jeff Davis stepped down as head of Colorado Parks and Wildlife after leading the agency since May 2023 to focus on a new role as senior policy advisor for DNR strategic priorities; Major General Laura Clellan will lead CPW beginning Dec. 1—while a formal search for his replacement is underway. - ➤ Colorado Springs City Council unanimously approved spending $4.1 million from the TOPS fund to acquire 130 acres for expanding Cheyenne Mountain State Park and to support future trail projects near open space areas. - ➤ For Thanksgiving, banks, credit unions, city and county offices, libraries and post offices will be closed on Thursday; Metro Transit buses will not run and public schools will be on break. - ➤ The City of Colorado Springs has released holiday parking specials for downtown and Old Colorado City, offering free parking on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. The city will also provide free garage parking on December 6 from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for the Festival of Lights event — metered parking will remain free after 8:00 p.m. and every Sunday.
