COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tenants of Aviator Apartments formed a union and sent an email on November 16 asking Life Bridge Capital to negotiate over issues (mold, pests, broken appliances, and delayed maintenance) after long waits for repairs. City Councilor Nancy Henjum said companies must treat residents fairly (unions can help ensure safe living conditions) as the union pushes for better building management.  Pikes Peak Bulletin
  • On Nov. 18, Colorado Springs commemorated the three-year anniversary of the Club Q tragedy—holding a ceremony to remember victims and honor survivors. The event offered the community a moment to reflect on the past and support the healing process.  11 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Salsa Latina, a Mexican restaurant open since 2006 on Colorado Springs’ south side, closed Monday after a prior post said it would stay open until Dec. 23. Owner Christina Medina said she ended operations to focus on expanding her health care business—Universe Personal Home Care—nationwide, and community members expressed both regret and support.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Rotary Club has committed 50,000 dollars to begin restoring the historic Acacia Park Bandshell in downtown to update its lights, sound and structure for renewed community events. The project will raise additional funds through donations and local partnerships to activate the venue for concerts and gatherings.  11 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Western Uranium and Vanadium, led by George Glasier, is restarting old uranium mines near Nucla and planning a new ore processing plant near Bedrock—this project aims to boost energy independence while addressing low uranium prices that demand levels above $100 per pound for new operations. The company expects to file a new application by mid-2026 and foresees the mine running 15—20 years and creating hundreds of jobs.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coronado High’s Cougars Care program, led by Brent Urban, has grown over 21 years to offer a student-run pantry that gives free food, clothing, and school supplies to up to 50 students and families every Thursday. Two other schools are replicating the model under a two-year pilot with Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado—Mitchell High students are preparing a soft opening with new pantry facilities.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs announced new initiatives on Nov. 6 to expand access for high school students by guaranteeing admission for those with a 2.75 GPA and offering concurrent enrollment classes at community college tuition rates—steps designed to make college more affordable. The university also said it will host its own Air Force ROTC detachment next fall—providing additional hands-on learning opportunities.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Colorado Springs released a 10-year downtown development plan that aims to boost affordable housing, lifestyle amenities and public restrooms following feedback from more than 2,000 residents. The plan also includes the approved 28-story One-Vela high-rise—intended to create a denser, more sustainable downtown while preserving green space.  KOAA News5

  • A free daylong event for survivors of suicide loss will be held Saturday, November 22 at Redemption Hill Church at 4811 Bliss Drive — sponsored by the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention and Heartbeat Survivors of Suicide Loss — to offer resource tables, a film, breakout sessions, and a light breakfast and lunch with registration requested.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • More than a dozen restaurants in Colorado Springs will offer dine-in service on Thanksgiving—local favorites like The ViewHouse, The Famous Steak House, and Base Camp Restaurant require reservations to ease holiday dining.  Colorado Springs Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Air Force fullback Kemper Hodges will start as quarterback on Saturday at home against New Mexico because Liam Szarka is sidelined with a broken arm—coach Troy Calhoun said Hodges brings leadership from his high school days.   • Former technical director Alan McCann was named head coach of the Colorado Springs Switchbacks— he joined as a technical analyst in 2021 and will lead the team into the 2026 season after coaching changes followed a disappointing 2025 record.  Colorado Springs Gazette
