COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Santa's Wonderland has returned to Bass Pro Shop at Northgate, offering free photos with Santa and holiday activities, including Christmas Tales on Tuesdays and a Yuletide Breakfast on November 22, through December 24, while a single-engine plane from Colorado Springs crashed in Castle Rock on November 10 with no injuries. Palmer Lake Historical Society will host a presentation on early rural electrification on November 20, Ent Credit Union is accepting nominations for its 2025 Community Advocate Award until December 15, drivers are urged to be cautious as November sees a peak in wildlife crashes, and heart specialists discussed heart attack prevention with AARP in Black Forest on November 12.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Gleneagle resident Duane Gritzmaker was named to the Sertoma International Hall of Fame at a conference in Dublin, Ohio on October 10-11 after more than 30 years of service building clubs and volunteering over 5,000 hours to help local youth, military families, and people with hearing loss—he is honored for his steady leadership and generous spirit.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Tri-Lakes Cares is a nonprofit that supports northern El Paso County neighbors by offering food, rental assistance, utilities, and other services to help prevent homelessness + it runs a free market-style pantry at 235 N.   • Fort Carson’s Warrior Warehouse began receiving toy donations Friday morning ahead of a large annual Christmas giveaway for military families—with Rate and the Army Association among key sponsors. Soldiers delivered toys during a festive Reindeer Ruck, and residents can drop off unwrapped toys at the Hilton Garden Inn on Nov. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.—helping support military families this holiday season.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • On Halloween night, Christy Mitchell reported that her Jack Russell Terrier Axel was attacked by a pack of four coyotes near DCC in her Flying Horse neighborhood and is now recovering after surgery at North Springs ER.  KOAA News5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stores and homes are showing Christmas decorations much earlier because retailers order holiday supplies early to avoid delays—this trend blends the traditional focus on Thanksgiving with the early start of Christmas celebrations. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Colorado Springs officials approved a proposal to create a CHIPS Zone to boost advanced manufacturing and attract high-paying jobs. The Economic Development Commission will review the request in December (decision pending) and the zone will begin on Jan. 1 if approved.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dakota Degenhart works as the school resource officer at Monument Academy where he greets students, helps with safety, and serves as an educator, counselor and officer—he builds strong bonds with pupils during morning routines and community events—he plans to stay at the school as long as possible.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • On November 12, PPLD leadership, board members, and Foundation representatives gathered at Ruth Holley Library (685 N. Murray Blvd.) to celebrate the district’s purchase of the formerly leased property named in honor of its first black branch supervisor. Chief Librarian Teona Shainidze-Krebs said the acquisition will support long-term community services with plans for expanded children’s areas and longer hours (details to be shared at town hall meetings in early 2026).  Pikes Peak Bulletin

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snow will return to Colorado’s high country starting Sunday morning as a low pressure system moves eastward and may bring the first powder skiing day Monday with between 2 and 8 inches in the southern mountains, 2 and 7 inches in the central and 2 and 6 inches in the northern areas. Several ski resorts including Vail and Eldora opened on Friday—additional storms are forecast to bring more snow through Thanksgiving.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs will close for two weeks starting Monday for tree planting as part of the Tejon Street Revitalization Project—sidewalks, dining patios and nearby parking at side streets and City garages remain open—and local businesses will offer free parking vouchers for customers.  11 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The latest Market Trends report by the Colorado Association of Realtors showed that home prices across the state leveled out after two years of slow sales, with the median for single-family homes barely dropping to $580,000 and condos falling by 2.4%. In Colorado Springs, agents reported a shift toward balance—inventory neared 4,000 homes and the median price fell to $473,500 as sales dropped to their lowest level since 2013.  Colorado Springs Gazette
