COMMUNITY NEWS

  • An eighth grade student from Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School raised funds by organizing a hat day fundraiser—requesting a one dollar donation from each student to help military families affected by the government shutdown. Sixty-eight students contributed, and the collected money will be donated to The Peak Food Pantry on Peterson Space Force Base.  11 News
  • Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado worked with 278 nonprofits across a 47,000 square mile service area and distributed 25 million pounds of food in each of fiscal years 2023 and 2024 from its three sites including Colorado Springs to fight food insecurity. The organization launched a student-led food pantry program and relied on 4,200 volunteers—key steps that helped support families in need.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At The Classical Academy on Tuesday, November 11, fifth graders recited the Gettysburg Address and other patriotic performances honored Veterans Day—stirring a spirited tribute in the school gym. Former Air Force doctor Chris Benjamin—a Bronze Star recipient—told the crowd that a life of service brings purpose and advised veterans to mentor young people.  Colorado Springs Gazette

FINANCE NEWS

  • The 10th Circuit ruled on Monday that Colorado can enforce its 36% APR limit on payday and consumer loans made by out-of-state lenders—reversing a lower court decision and confirming the state’s long effort to clamp down on predatory lending. Three national financial trade groups said they are exploring further legal options for appeal.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado State Patrol troopers have shared tips for drivers to prepare their cars for winter by checking tire tread, batteries, fluids, and emergency supplies. They say these steps can help reduce crashes when snow and ice make roads dangerous — advice given as winter approaches.  11 News
  • On Tuesday, Veterans Day led to the closure of many city-run facilities in Colorado Springs—such as City Hall and the Municipal Court—while public events including school assemblies, wreath-laying ceremonies and a free veteran dinner honored those who served; several sites remained open for veterans to access discounts and free admission. Local restaurants and organizations also offered special deals to veterans on this day.  11 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is spreading in Teller County schools and making children sick with fever, sore throat and red blisters on their hands, feet and in their mouths — school officials have increased cleaning and handwashing measures to keep more cases from emerging. Other schools, such as Lake George Charter and Woodland Park School District, have asked parents to keep sick kids home to help limit the spread.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Officials in Colorado Springs said the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association may move their headquarters and museum to Cheyenne if an out-of-state economic development bid succeeds and board votes are achieved by next spring. Cheyenne officials point to lower taxes and a strong business climate as key factors while local leaders remain committed to the organizations’ long legacy in the community.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Mesa Ridge and Palmer Ridge will meet Friday at 7 p.m.—Mesa Ridge won 54-22 over Loveland last week while Palmer Ridge, who beat Mesa Ridge 35-7 on Sept. 26, remains undefeated at 10-0.  Colorado Springs Gazette
