EDUCATION NEWS

  • School board races in El Paso County are very close as union-endorsed candidates lead by small vote margins while final counts, including cured ballots, will be added Nov. 14—this may shift the board's direction.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Colorado Springs business owner urged state and local leaders to act on homelessness that is hurting small businesses. More than a dozen state officials toured the city Friday — they discussed the link between homelessness and crime.  11 News
  • Thousands of locals gathered in Colorado Springs Saturday for a Veterans Day parade that saw high-ranking military leaders and some active-duty service members cancel their participation due to a government shutdown—adding to veterans' worries about federal support.   • Colorado Springs homeowners can explore roof repairs, kitchen remodels, and new design trends at The Springs Home Show this weekend at Norris Penrose Event Center.   • Village won the 3A regional title at Denver Coliseum after sweeping its matches and advanced to the state tournament — six local schools also earned state berths following strong regional play.   • Air Force won a 26-16 football game at CEFCU Stadium Saturday by forcing three turnovers, recording a safety, and redeeming a missed interception from two years ago when a senior cornerback made his first pick. The Falcons clinched the win with a 32-yard field goal with 31 seconds left—overcoming recent kicking struggles.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Air Force beat San Jose State 26—16 when kicker Reagan Tubbs made a field goal with 31 seconds left and defensive lineman Payton Zdroik recorded a safety along with key tackles.   • Air Force hockey earned a comeback win at Sacred Heart when junior defenseman Nolan Cunningham scored the game-winner with less than three minutes left in the third period — a win that swept the series and marked their fourth straight victory. The Falcons, now above .500 with six points in the Atlantic Hockey America standings, will host Holy Cross at Cadet Ice Arena next week — a matchup set to boost team confidence.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado College hockey coach Kris Mayotte led his Tigers to their first conference win on Saturday by beating Arizona State 3-1 after holding the Sun Devils scoreless in the third period+ the win snapped a three-game winless streak and the Tigers will face rival Denver next weekend in a home-and-home series for the Gold Pan.  Colorado Springs Gazette
