COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Surveys and interviews with nearly 4,000 residents in El Paso and Teller counties showed they value the region’s scenic beauty and outdoor recreation while citing high housing costs and traffic congestion as concerns. The Pikes Peak Community Foundation unveiled the report Thursday at the McDivitt Club — guiding future decisions by government, nonprofits, and local businesses.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs will host a full week of Veterans Day events including the In Their Honor Veterans Day Parade on Saturday at 11 a.m. along Tejon Street and a Purple Heart Exhibit at the ANA Money Museum from Friday to Tuesday (adults pay $8 and eligible veterans enter free). Local groups have also organized wreath-laying ceremonies on Tuesday at Memorial Park and Pikes Peak State College, a free veteran dinner in Woodland Park, a Veterans Day Assembly at The Classical Academy, a speaker series at Rampart Campus, Latino Veterans Valor Awards at the Pinery on the Hill, and a gala on Nov. 14 at Mt. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews responded to a small brush fire north of Austin Bluffs Parkway off Union Boulevard in Colorado Springs on Thursday, which threatened a structure and measured about 30ft x 30ft — firefighters contained the blaze by 9:45 a.m. Later, six people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after an SUV crashed into a King Soopers on Uintah and 19th Street.  KOAA News5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charles Johnson leads the close race for the final school board seat after receiving 24,065 votes as recorded by the El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office — Jeremiah Johnson and Michael Carsten trail with 24,023 and 24,009 votes. The office is still waiting on military and overseas ballots and will update the results on November 14.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs School District 11 updated its instructional materials policy during its Wednesday night meeting so that professionals choose textbooks and other materials, with the superintendent making the final call—this update follows Senate Bill 25-063 and CASB recommendations while addressing community concerns over censorship.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government agencies and community organizations in Colorado Springs have devised a plan to raise $900,000 so that extra shelter beds will be added when winter arrives—improvements include expanding capacity at Springs Rescue Mission and reopening The Sanctuary Church gym as a shelter. So far $850,000 has been raised from grants and donations, and officials say the expanded plan will provide 980 overnight spaces to protect people during severe cold weather.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • East Las Vegas Street under the Circle Drive bridges will close for two weeks starting Monday to allow work on a permanent concrete barrier—northbound drivers should use Highway 85 North and Venetucci Boulevard while southbound drivers use Janitell Road. City officials said weekend work may occur and the schedule could change due to weather.  11 News
  • Mayor Mobolade honored 21 finalists on Wednesday at the annual Young Leader Awards ceremony by naming seven winners who made a positive impact in military, technology & sustainability, sports, education, economic impact, creative industry, and community impact.  11 News

  • Colorado Rockies are set to hire Paul DePodesta from the Cleveland Browns to lead baseball operations, an AP source said. He brings 20 seasons of MLB experience and will replace Bill Schmidt after a season with 43 wins and 119 losses—his move is a key part of the team's plan to improve.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Coach Justin Rich said the Titans are set to begin the 2A state playoffs with a home game against Florence at 1:30 p.m. Saturday—after losing 22 seniors from their 2024 championship team, the squad remains undefeated with nine wins and strong performances against quality opponents.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Air Force coach Troy Calhoun — a long-time rival of San Jose State coach Ken Niumatalolo — said mutual respect has grown through nearly every season since 2007.
