- ➤ Fifty-two out-of-state dogs arrived at the National Mill Dog Rescue with 49 landing in the Peyton shelter on Saturday evening and three sent to a partner shelter in Missouri—staff and volunteers are now cleaning and evaluating the dogs for medical care before they are put up for adoption. - ➤ Families in Colorado Springs enjoyed free trunk or treat events earlier this week and can join the event at Bubba’s 33 today from 4 to 7 p.m.—further events from Oct. 28 through Halloween will offer games, costume contests and treats at various local venues. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ Colorado Springs volunteers—working with local churches—are gathering shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child to share Jesus’s love with needy children worldwide. - ➤ A 4.5-mile murder mystery hike will take place Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the Homestead Trailhead at Mueller State Park in Divide—participants will pay a $10 day pass per vehicle and follow the clues of the 1941 disappearance of homesteader Sumner Osborn. Colorado Springs Gazette

- ➤ The STEP Springs men's recovery center will open tomorrow in Colorado Springs to offer support for men battling addiction and homelessness in the Pikes Peak region+ local officials say the facility will provide urgently needed resources. 11 News
- ➤ A letter to the editor shows that both housed and unhoused people face mental illness and substance use problems, but limited access to care makes it harder for those on Medicaid to get help — local nonprofits are struggling with funding cuts while trying to bridge that gap.
