  • Manitou Springs hosted the 31st annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races on Saturday—downtown roads were closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and drivers were advised to use a $5 shuttle, rideshare, or bike valet at Memorial Park as the parade started at noon with races following immediately.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson received the Edgar Rice Burroughs Legacy Award at the Tarzana International Film Festival earlier this year, highlighting his career built on Monument’s natural beauty. HEALTH NEWS

  • A state-funded program called Next Chapter helped lower veteran suicides in El Paso County with deaths dropping from 63 in 2023 to 36 in 2024 and overall deaths falling by 16%. The program lost state funding in March due to a budget shortfall and is now seeking new money through a $1.5 million grant and a possible tax revenue measure—officials say more support will help veterans get the care they need—.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Joe Sisneros has coached the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind football team for over 26 years and was recently inducted into the local Sports Hall of Fame—his 1977 season brought national attention through unique sign language playbooks and innovative training.   • Air Force graduate Ethan Taylor was taken in the first round of the NBA G-League Draft on Saturday and finished the day with the Santa Cruz Warriors—the affiliate of the Golden State Warriors.
