  • Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College opened Gathering Place, a new four-gallery exhibit showing 150 to 200 pieces from its permanent collection including sacred santos and historic art from New Mexico and Southern Colorado. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders including Mayor Yemi Mobolade, Councilmembers Kimberly Gold and Nancy Henjum will hear from local residents on Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the former Meadows Park Community Center as the city seeks feedback to guide future plans after the facility closed—residents have also been invited to share their past use of the center through an online survey.  Colorado Springs Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that by Oct. 11 only 10.7% of eligible residents in El Paso County and 12.8% statewide had received the flu shot. They also said that updated COVID shots had reached just 6% statewide (4.2% in El Paso) and Gov.   • Palmer Ridge softball advanced to the 4A state tournament on Oct. 24-25 at Aurora Sports Park after winning two games on Oct. 17 in regionals— they join Cheyenne Mountain and Air Academy and a win next week will set the school record at 22 victories.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • After a chilly Saturday match, the Switchbacks won 1-0 over Las Vegas Lights FC at Weidner Field and thanked fans for their support—this win pushed them into playoff contention as they prepare to face FC Tulsa next.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Air Force hockey recorded its first victory of the season on Saturday night by beating St. Thomas 6-2 at Cadet Ice Arena after an 11-2 loss the previous night. Coach Frank Serratore (in his 29th season) praised the team's resilience as they came back from an early deficit with four consecutive goals and strong goaltending from Carter Clafton.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Widefield Gladiators finished Region 6 at Elizabeth on Saturday by winning two of three games to earn a spot in next week’s state playoffs in Aurora despite ending an unbeaten run of 13 wins — they were the only Pikes Peak school among five to reach the state playoffs.   • Air Force snapped a five-game losing streak with a 24-21 win over Wyoming last Saturday — fourth-quarter interceptions and a strong running game turned the tide as kicker Reagan Tubbs made three field goals. Quarterback Liam Szarka broke his record with his fifth 100-yard game while the Falcons now head into an off week ahead of their home game against Army on Nov. 1.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Advait Jadhav, Pine Creek's star No. 2 singles player and only 5A freshman in a placement match, finished fourth at the state boys tennis tournament Saturday with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Cherry Creek's Jack Loehr at Denver Tennis Park.
