COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Kennel Club Show is happening this weekend at Norris-Penrose Event Center with a specialty show on Thursday and all-breed confirmation events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Officials said the event—expected to have 700 to 1,000 entries—offers trials and competitions for dogs and kids and is free for attendees.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Residents of Acacia Park and Centennial Plaza protested at the Colorado Springs Housing Authority meeting on October 16 and said management refused to fix unsafe conditions—citing issues like flooding and inconsistent hot water; the protest was led by COST to demand better communication and accountability.  Pikes Peak Bulletin
  • The Colorado Springs mining museum celebrates its 13th annual pumpkin patch, running Saturdays in October from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.—the event draws thousands of visitors and features locally grown pumpkins sold for $8 in person and $7 online.  11 News
  • Indivisible Colorado is hosting the 'No Kings 2.0' rally today at America the Beautiful Park from noon to 3 p.m.—the event will feature community organization booths, voter registration, a kid zone and ASL interpreters before a downtown march begins.  KOAA News5
  • The Colorado Pumpkin Patch has opened a new Highway 105 location in Monument that offers family activities such as cow trains, slides, and animal petting. JD Chapman—owner of the 40-acre property—said the site now features a western town for animals, laser tag castles, wheelchair-friendly paths, and two new yaks and llamas, with part of the proceeds supporting the Johnny Pumpkinseed program for foster and special needs children.  KOAA News5

CRIME NEWS

  • CSPD K9 Roam was injured on October 15 while taking a suspect into custody and will be discharged today after surgery that included amputation of his left hind leg—he and his handler will be escorted by marked police vehicles along Fountain Boulevard while community members and media show support starting at 11:00 a.m.  City of Colorado Springs

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Airport recently launched Art at COS, a 350-square-foot gallery on the second floor before security in partnership with Cottonwood Center for the Arts. The inaugural exhibit Window Seat: Views From the Stratosphere will open in January with submissions accepted until Dec. 13 — the airport will also feature outdoor sculptures that rotate every 18 months as part of a local art initiative.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four candidates – Janna Blanter, Kara Mehall, Jessica Lehman, and David Schulz – met at Cheyenne Mountain High School Thursday night to answer community questions on artificial intelligence in classrooms and student mental health ahead of the Nov. 4 board election. They discussed classroom policies and current support structures while emphasizing clear communication and transparency.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Governor Jared Polis’ office warned that if the federal shutdown continues through October low-income families could lose SNAP benefits, putting 600,000 Coloradans at risk—334,590 households rely on the program and many may need help soon.  11 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • UCHealth’s Memorial Hospital North in Monument is adding a second linear accelerator—doubling its capacity to treat cancer patients in northeast Colorado Springs and northern El Paso County for $3.4 million.
