- ➤ Springs Rescue Mission CEO Travis Williams sat on a park bench near the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum for 24 hours to raise awareness of homelessness—he will finish his sit at 1 p.m. today as community leaders join in discussions to support those in need. KOAA News5
- ➤ Meadows Park Community Center is closing today due to a $31 million budget shortfall and low attendance, and city officials are working with community partners to explore ways to reopen it. - ➤ Colorado Springs Utilities is holding a meeting to discuss the future of reservoirs at the North Slope Recreation Area. The in-person meeting will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the agency’s Conservation and Environmental Center—2855 Mesa Road, and an online session is planned on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. to gather more feedback. - ➤ On Monday, Oct. 13, the city will begin a median modification project on Garden of the Gods Road west of Interstate 25 that will temporarily reduce lanes and change business access for six to eight weeks to help prevent accidents—traffic signal improvements east of I-25 will start in November. - ➤ Mail-in ballots start going out today to over half a million registered voters in El Paso County for a coordinated election that includes school board races, tax measures, and a county commissioner vacancy — most voters will begin seeing theirs by the weekend and can track their ballot via Ballot Trax. 11 News
- ➤ City officials are planning to expand Cheyenne Mountain State Park by acquiring 473 acres near the park entrance; the city will fund 125.8 acres with $3.9 million from TOPS funds while Colorado Parks and Wildlife will cover the remaining 347.2 acres.
