  • The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is featuring Ivy—a 7-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix—during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month as she looks for a loving home. She gets along with children, cats and livestock but must live in a home without chickens and requires a secure yard.  11 News

  • Colorado Springs Police are raising awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October by working with local groups to help victims and hold abusers accountable. They are asking for donations of used cell phones (to support the Phone It Forward Program) and are partnering with victim advocates to offer essential support.  City of Colorado Springs

  • The Colorado Springs school district is preparing to fill hundreds of classrooms as teachers prepare to strike and officials are putting substitute plans in place to keep classes running if the strike goes ahead.  11 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade presented a draft 2026 budget that proposes $31 million in cuts as the city grapples with a projected $15 million revenue shortfall for 2025. The proposal includes furloughs, layoffs, and the closure of the Meadows Community Center while the council considers further cuts to protect key services—public safety, infrastructure, and housing.  Colorado Public Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Oct. 3, the Prescription Drug Affordability Review Board set an upper payment limit of $600 per 50 mg unit for Enbrel—a drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other conditions—making Colorado the first state to cap a specific medication’s price. The board will meet again on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m., and the move is expected to lessen the financial burden on patients who face high drug costs.  Colorado Springs Gazette

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Seven pumpkin patches in the Colorado Springs area offer families a range of fall activities this October—Miners’ Pumpkin Patch on the Western Museum of Mining and Industry campus lets visitors pick local pumpkins and enjoy hayrides while other sites in Monument, Ellicott and Cañon City host treats like tractor rides, petting zoos and corn mazes.   • Affordable housing is now available on the southeast side after Greccio Housing held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday—marking the grand opening of Bentley Commons Apartments near Hancock Expressway and Astrozon Boulevard.
