Accu-Precision plans a $68M aerospace facility near Aerospace Boulevard and Drennan Road in southeast Colorado Springs that will create 123 jobs with wages over $90,000.
The company will begin hiring next summer and expects the facility to be operational in spring 2028.
🎓 Education
UCCS Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet (serving since 2023) announced she will retire at the end of the 2026-27 academic year, with her contract ending in June, in an email to students, staff and faculty.
🌲 Environment
Two ash trees at homes in Rustic Hills were cut down last Friday due to emerald ash borer damage, one of the first cases since the pest was confirmed in August.
City Forestry officials met with local firms in late September to train staff on early detection.
🏛️ Government
Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle Jr. met Monday afternoon at Davidson Technologies near Redstone Arsenal as part of a Discovery Trip to boost ties between their aerospace and defense sectors.
Leaders stressed that collaboration can bring new opportunities while competing for jobs and investments.

Area athletes recorded career-best performances in football, softball, soccer, volleyball, tennis, and cross country as prep sports entered a key postseason run; upcoming local contests include girls volleyball on Thursday at 6 p.m., a football game on Friday at 7 p.m., and a cross country invitational Saturday (at the USAF Academy).
Yesterday, Sam Early led Banning Lewis (ranked 5th in 2A) to a 27-22 win over La Junta by throwing for 205 yards and three touchdowns while adding 134 rushing yards, and the team will face Lamar at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
This performance marks a step toward their first playoff berth since 2023.
TCA’s Grady Ortiz finished tied for fifth at the state boys golf tournament at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa on Tuesday while Manitou Springs’ Hayden Dorsey placed seventh, marking his third consecutive top-10 finish in state competition.
Cheyenne Mountain won the boys Class 4A state title on Tuesday at Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel and posted a 6+ over 438 total in a two-day tournament; senior Brayden Destefano led the team and tied for third individually.
Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said junior Liam Szarka is out for the season after a knee injury confirmed by Monday's MRI following a Saturday win over Navy; the Falcons will turn to sophomore Evan Medders to continue heavy quarterback rushes (Szarka led the nation in attempts).
