COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, community leaders and First Amendment Media host a Remembering October 7th candlelight vigil in Acacia Park at 6:00 p.m. — the event honors those lost and offers solace to families two years after the attacks.  KOAA News5
  • On Saturday, thousands of basketballs, soccer balls and footballs were donated at the fifth annual Balltoberfest in Colorado Springs; the police worked with SCHEELS (through the Play COS program) to support local kids as a Flight for Life helicopter dropped the 10,000th ball after over 9,000 were collected.  KOAA News5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teachers in District 11 in Colorado Springs will strike on Wednesday to protest the loss of a 56-year bargaining agreement and harsh work conditions. They will hold a picket line from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — teachers will also canvass homes and rally while district officials warn of discipline.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters will host school board candidate forums in the Pikes Peak region ahead of the November election. The events are scheduled for Oct 9 at Cliff House in Manitou Springs, Oct 14 at Widefield Rec Center, Oct 16 at Cheyenne Mountain High School, Oct 23 at Ellicott 22 (location pending), and Oct 28 at Citadel Mall.  KOAA News5
  • Colorado Springs is planning a 2026 budget of $907 million with a drop of $33 million overall and $11 million off the general fund due to slower tax revenue – Mayor Mobolade handed the detailed plans to the City Council on Monday in City Hall and the review will continue with a public town hall on Oct.27.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • On Friday, Palmer Lake had a win when a lawsuit from Integrity Matters to block a plan for a second Buc-ee’s location was dismissed, and trustee and Mayor Pro-tem Amy Hutson resigned after five years—she said defamation and hostile remarks made it hard to serve. Hutson had stated she would have opposed the final decision on the project.  Colorado Springs Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Following a protest in Colorado Springs over a special assessment that exceeded $10,000, the state-run HOA Information Center was created in 2012 to help homeowners understand their rights under the Colorado Common Interest Ownership Act—providing complaint filing and education without offering legal advice. The center also collects data from complaints for lawmakers but does not enforce penalties or intervene in disputes.  KOAA News5

  • Former Colorado College center Noah Laba earned a final spot on the New York Rangers’ 23-man roster after a strong preseason where he tallied two goals and four assists in six games—his overtime game-winner against the New York Islanders helped him secure the Lars-Erik Sjoberg Award as top rookie. Colorado College coach Kris Mayotte praised Laba’s progress and noted that his achievements fulfilled long-held team expectations.  Colorado Springs Gazette
