CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center has reinstalled its permanent collection for the first time in nearly a decade with the new exhibition 'Gathering Place' that shows local history, culture and landscapes. ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows that rising financial fraud is costing Colorado billions, cutting GDP, lowering incomes, and eliminating thousands of jobs in 2025. Older residents lose more money from these scams — experts call for better prevention and reporting measures to protect them.  Colorado Springs Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Springs School District 11's teachers union will hold a one-day strike on Oct-8 to protest cutting a long-time contract, with teachers and supporters gathering outside schools in the morning and at Acacia Park later. The action aims to restore teacher rights and improve classroom conditions amid growing tensions with the board.  Colorado Springs Gazette

FINANCE NEWS

  • Colorado nonprofits that run bingo nights for charitable gaming are showing different revenue numbers on state filings than on their IRS reports—some groups reported no bingo income despite raising large sums and others misclassified their revenue. Tax experts warned that these differences could risk their tax-exempt status if corrections are not made.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Several Colorado charities have bypassed state rules by crediting bingo volunteers with funds earned through their work, letting parents use the credits for youth sports and education expenses. Regulators previously fined a Colorado Springs gymnastics club—one of several groups using this system—and records show these indirect payments still continue.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Mayor Mobolade said in a recent interview that he is cutting $31 million in projects and laying off staff to save money while working with local groups to add 200 shelter beds and boost revenue with fee audits (he plans to use these partnerships to support projects like a new police training center and downtown improvements). He also said he hopes to run for another term to carry out these long-term goals amid a tight budget.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Crews from Colorado Springs Utilities will replace a broken water valve and fire hydrant on Austin Bluffs Parkway from Monday through Friday—two eastbound lanes between American Drive and Academy Boulevard will be closed while a northern lane and local businesses remain accessible. Existing westbound closures from substation work will continue through November.  11 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Colorado became the first state to cap prescription drug prices when the Prescription Drug Affordability Review Board set a $600 cap for a 50 mg dose of Enbrel—a medication used for autoimmune conditions. The move followed a review that declared the drug unaffordable and came amid Amgen’s appeal after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the cap.  KOAA News5
