  • The Colorado Springs Police Department and Scheels will host the fifth annual Balltoberfest this Saturday, October 4 at 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. at Scheels, with Colorado Flight for Life dropping off the 10,000th ball for PlayCOS as community members can also donate sports balls to support the program.  City of Colorado Springs

  • A downtown Colorado Springs restaurant formerly known as The Ute rebranded as The Common Fork in early September and revamped its menu and interior to clearly separate itself from CityRock. The fast-casual spot now offers a range of dishes including gluten-free and vegan options—plans to add cocktails are underway after finishing their permit process.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Colorado Springs hosts the Dead Man’s Brewfest at Weidner Field, where 17 local breweries, distilleries and wineries offer hand-selected beers, wines and spirits — organizers said the event partners with iHeart and Big Brothers/Big Sisters after last year’s foul weather. Tomorrow in Manitou Springs, the Heritage Brew Festival will mark its 10th anniversary at Memorial Park with local food, live music and offerings from over 20 breweries — drawing guests to a scenic Pikes Peak backdrop.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Arts Month begins in Colorado Springs this October with over 200 events at more than 100 venues, organized by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region—offering art, music, theater, and food experiences.   • Today, Colorado’s ski movie season kicks off with Teton Gravity Research’s 'Pressure Drop' showing at Beaver Creek at 6:30 p.m.—a treat for local skiers.   • Colorado Springs and nearby areas have a busy weekend of events—Cripple Creek Fall Fest will show off mining-era donkeys as grand marshals in a parade on Saturday and Sunday while eighth graders display sidewalk art in downtown during Chalktober on Thursday and Friday. Community efforts continue with a Creek Week cleanup from Friday to Sunday, a ghost stories walking tour in Manitou on Friday and Saturday that benefits a local museum, Candlelight Concerts at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, and rodeo competitions at the National Western Complex on Friday and Saturday.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • A three-month investigation found that Colorado’s $110M charitable gaming industry has many loopholes & little oversight, with convicted felons and organizations with poor records still getting certified to run bingo games.   • The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department will host its final Motorless Morning this season at Garden of the Gods Park on Sunday — the event will remove motor vehicle access from 5 a.m. until noon and offer designated parking with shuttles for visitors.  11 News
