  • Mama Poke is a fast casual Japanese restaurant on Hartsel Drive that serves a variety of fresh poke bowls, ramen, and dumplings in a bright space with colorful cat mats—a nod to local charm. CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, award-winning Chicago-based Giordano Dance Chicago will perform at Ent Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs, showcasing its original Giordano Technique developed by Gus Giordano in 1963—ten dancers will present six jazz pieces that include four full company works and a solo honoring three generations.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • UCCS will host its annual Economic Forum on October 2 at the ENT Center for the Arts—doors open at 12:00 p.m. and presentations start at 1:00 p.m. Experts will share insights on economic trends in Colorado Springs and the event costs $70 to attend.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the Broadmoor Hotel this week, Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade delivered his second State of the City address, saying the police force now exceeds 800 which has led to faster responses and notable drops in various crimes. He also detailed efforts to improve homelessness outreach by clearing over 1,100 encampments and advancing housing projects with 500 new permits and 1,700 affordable units in progress—showing his plan to build a safer, more connected city.  Pikes Peak Bulletin
  • NASA changed the contract for the Dream Chaser so Sierra Space will perform only a free test flight and has moved its first launch to late 2026 instead of the seven ISS missions originally planned. Future missions will be ordered on a case-by-case basis and NASA will provide minimal support after the test flight.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Kids Crossing in Colorado Springs is using the Kinship Foster Care Homes law—effective since September 2024—to help speed up foster care placement for children. The law lets kin and kin-like caregivers get licensed faster and receive reimbursement, and county officials reported that 329 children were in kinship care as of September 12.  KOAA News5

  • Colorado Springs man Nunes is climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for prostate cancer using his own experience to encourage early detection—he plans to continue his journey to educate more people about the importance of screening.  11 News

  • This weekend, local events offer many fun options for families and individuals. FamilyFest runs Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at Soccerhaus Sports & Event Center—other activities include Oktoberfest at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry on Saturday and Sunday, Falcon Harvest Festival at Falcon High School on Saturday, Tough Mudder at Fort Carson over the weekend, and additional events like a cycling ride, air show, clay fest, tattoo convention, and a community picnic at Prospect Lake.  Colorado Springs Gazette
