  • Last Saturday, families and firefighters gathered at Memorial Park to honor fallen heroes by inscribing names on a granite wall—Joe Radich remembered his father, a firefighter who died from lymphoma contracted on the job. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Catholic Church in Colorado is studying whether to open a sainthood cause for Kendrick Castillo, the 18-year-old who died while tackling a gunman during the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting in 2019—where eight others were wounded and his brave act saved many lives. Two priests submitted extensive materials supporting his deep faith and service to advance the process.  KVOR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Armando Saldate became the new director of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation in July and is working to rebuild trust after public missteps in the forensic lab—he said new processes will cut the evidence backlog and speed up case processing for rural law enforcement.  Colorado Public Radio
  • After Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox urged the nation to find an off-ramp from political violence, and Colorado officials agreed in principle but questioned if such a path exists and who is driving the division—while emphasizing the need for safer, bipartisan dialogue—amid ongoing investigations and rising threats.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Jonathan Aziz won the men's division with a time of 3:54:07 and Kristina Mascarenas won the women's division with a time of 4:35:10 at the 2025 Pikes Peak Marathon.   • On Sept. 20, 2025, Colorado Springs hosted the 2025 Pikes Peak Ascent with Brian Whitfield finishing first among men in 2:13:31. Sarah Carter crossed the finish line first among women in 2:46:49—delivering the official race results.  Colorado Springs Gazette
