- ➤ Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the 39th fallen firefighter ceremony at Memorial Park on Saturday at 11 a.m. The event will add names of firefighters who died in 2024 to the memorial wall—local and Canadian firefighters will later gather downtown to honor their sacrifice. - ➤ Cheyenne Mountain Zoo invites the public to help name its newborn Western Lowland Gorilla by donating a minimum of $5 (all funds will support a new Primate World) and voting for one of three names until October 9. - ➤ On Wednesday, hundreds of Mesa Ridge High School students held a peaceful walkout on the school's front lawn to protest gun violence as they chanted for tougher penalties after recent misdemeanor charges for carrying guns and a nearby school shooting injured students. The protest called for stricter gun laws—demanding safer schools for all. 11 News
- ➤ Dozens of Palmer High and Widefield D-3 students walked out of class yesterday to protest gun violence in schools by demanding enhanced safety measures such as mental health screenings and the removal of Yondr pouches—an action that followed a shooting at Evergreen High and a gun confiscation at Mesa Ridge High.
