ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday night, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported that firefighters conducted a high-angle rescue at High Drive near Bear Creek Road — crews set up a highline to safely move an individual across the canyon.  11 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Safeway is planning to close four stores in southern Colorado—two in Colorado Springs, one in Lamar and one in La Junta—by or before Nov. 7 as part of a consolidation effort. Local officials have urged the company to reconsider the decision because the closures will impact jobs and reduce local tax revenue.  Colorado Public Radio
  • Monument-based software company Tech7 won a $489 million federal contract from the U.S. General Services Administration to boost defense technology— the firm will use AI and machine learning to help the Space Force track orbiting objects and plans to add 25 new workers in the next year.  Colorado Public Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Martini Shot, a six-piece band, will celebrate its 25th anniversary on Saturday at Stargazers Theatre and Event Center by performing cover songs and original music. The show will include former band members and a trailer for a documentary, marking a big milestone in the band's long history in Colorado Springs.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southern Colorado firefighters climbed the Manitou Incline yesterday to mark 9/11 — it was the 9th annual climb, according to Colorado Springs.  11 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • I Matter is offering free mental health counseling for Colorado youth under 18 with up to six sessions from licensed therapists—most of which are held online. The program started in 2021 after HB 21-1258 and will continue until June 30, 2034 via Senate Bill 24-001.  KOAA News5
  • After Wednesday's shooting at Evergreen High School, state officials urged families and students to use free mental health resources available in the area—these include the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free therapy sessions for youth, and on-site support from professionals. Officials also noted that even duplicate tips help investigators piece together safety concerns.  11 News
