CRIME NEWS

  • Late Saturday night, a shooting occurred on the 1200 block of Potter Drive—one person died and another was taken to a local hospital as police continue to investigate the case.  KOAA News5
  • Colorado Springs police arrested two people for aggravated robbery and one for obstructing a police officer after a nightclub disturbance escalated to gunfire in the parking lot (2:15 a.m. Sunday) on the 3700 block of Astrozon Boulevard.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Police arrested Jimmy Melgoza, 33, after pursuing his vehicle early Sunday morning following a domestic disturbance call involving a gun—officers used their patrol car to end the chase and recovered the weapon, charging him with felony menacing, second-degree kidnapping, and traffic violations.  11 News
  • Early Sunday at about 2 a.m. police in southeast Colorado Springs arrested Jimmy Melgoza—33—for reportedly threatening two people with a gun and kidnapping a woman when his car was hit by a patrol vehicle on South Academy Boulevard, and he now faces charges of felony menacing and second-degree kidnapping.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Manitou Springs announced that all walking paths along Fountain Creek from Mayfair Avenue to Old Mans Trail will be closed today for Phase 4 of the Creek Walk Trail Project. Crews will work daily from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.—signed detours along Manitou Avenue and 24-hour traffic control will remain active.  11 News
