  • The Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off starts today at Memorial Park with a 6 a.m. drone show, 6:30 a.m. opening ceremony and 7 a.m. balloon lift off as the event unfolds through Monday. City officials have announced road closures around the park from 5 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and later to manage heavy traffic.  KOAA News5
  • Colorado Springs welcomed the opening of a new 23,000-square-foot senior center Friday with a ribbon-cutting and open house by city officials and the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region. The center offers indoor pickleball courts, a kitchen, and social spaces—built after two years of planning that began in July 2024—and it will host daily programs run by the YMCA.  11 News

  • On Tuesday, a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 near Blue Gill Drive left 29-year-old Noel Gutierrez-Cano fatally shot—authorities are now seeking dashcam footage of the 2013 GMC Sierra Denali that fled the scene.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has issued a missing person alert for a 16-year-old indigenous teen last seen around 1:20 p.m. near 2200 East La Salle Street in Colorado Springs—she is described as having brown hair, green eyes, and wearing a black shirt and pants while possibly heading to Palmer Park.  KOAA News5

  • Fort Carson soldier Sgt. Tyler Garza worries that his wife—Jennifer Maradiaga—is at risk of deportation, which may prevent his deployment because she must stay to care for their two daughters. The family is set to attend an ICE check-in on Sunday, Aug. 31 between 8 a.m. and noon while Fort Carson and legal experts work to resolve the issue.  Colorado Springs Gazette
