CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Police are searching for 12-year-old Sophie Tatum—she was last seen on Wednesday in the 4900 block of Turning Leaf Way near Markscheffel and Barnes Road and is described as a 5-foot-1, 100-pound child with brown hair and brown eyes.  11 News
  • On Aug. 13, federal agents raided two El Ranchito stores on Airport Road and Maizeland Road in a money laundering probe—owner David Garcia said agents took cash, damaged property, detained employees, and questioned staff while the family denies any illegal activity and insists their business helps send money to families abroad.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • More than 40 pounds of meth were recovered Tuesday night by the Rocky Mountain DEA from Sinaloa cartel members driving on a major Colorado interstate—officials said the high-potency drugs threaten public safety and health.  11 News
  • El Paso County investigators have asked locals for help finding a homicide suspect involved in a three-vehicle crash on US 24 Tuesday between Woodmen and Judge Orr roads when a white pickup truck towing a black trailer crashed and a passenger died before the collision—authorities urge anyone near the highway between 8 and 10 a.m. to check any available footage.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The sheriff’s office issued a shelter-in-place for the 1300 block of Burnham Street after officers attempted to serve a felony warrant just after 8 a.m.—SWAT was on scene by 10:30 a.m.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Colorado Springs will close its administrative offices on Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day while several facilities (like Deerfield Hills Spray Ground and Garden of the Gods Park) will operate on adjusted hours. City events such as the Labor Day Lift Off in Memorial Park and scheduled golf championships will continue as planned.  City of Colorado Springs
  • Colorado Springs Public Works tested expedited road washout repairs in North Cheyenne Canon after a couple of days of rain—project leaders are confident the redesign with gabion baskets and 300 tons of rock will keep the road safe for local residents. Sixty crew members worked quickly to restore this vital access route.  KOAA News5

  • The Air Force Falcons will start the season Saturday when they play Bucknell at Falcon Stadium at 1:30 p.m.—this is their first meeting and the seniors expect to build on last season’s strong defense and low penalty record. Head coach Troy Calhoun says the team's hard work and careful game plan will help them make a run this season.  11 News
