- ➤ El Paso County faces a childcare crisis as a new report finds 14,391 spaces are needed to meet demand, with local estimates reaching as high as 17,000. - ➤ Halo Reentry Inc.—a new youth recovery center in Colorado Springs—is now open to provide mentorship and support that helps youths avoid criminal paths. - ➤ The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to find a missing teenager. Elena, a 13-year-old last seen at 2:30 p.m. Sunday near Main Street and US Highway 85/87 in Security-Widefield, is described (5 ft 2 in, 120 lbs with dark brown hair in a buzz cut and dark brown eyes). KOAA News5
- ➤ Colorado Springs Police Department welcomed K9 Roam as its first certified firearms detection dog after completing training from the National Police Canine Association—he will assist patrol officers and detectives with firearm-related calls and investigations. 11 News

- ➤ Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is expanding its giraffe habitat by building a new 12,000‑square‑foot barn—set for completion in summer with a 25% larger feeding area and 11 feeding stations for closer animal encounters. - ➤ Colorado Springs Municipal Airport is updating its terminal with the ElevateCOS project to improve restrooms, lighting, flooring and add Common Use gate operations that let any airline board from any gate. - ➤ Colorado's new child abuse law takes effect Sept. 1 and requires educators and child care workers to report suspected abuse within 24 hours—no one else can report for them.
