- ➤ The Place, Colorado Springs' only licensed overnight shelter for homeless teens, will close indefinitely on Sept. 5 due to funding uncertainty and low grant support, with 13 employees laid off while current residents continue to get case management and placement help. - ➤ Pikes Peak is getting a new high-tech weather station that will soon measure snowfall, wind, lightning and other conditions with more precision. Jared Polis said Colorado is not a sanctuary state and is upset by the label even though the state works with federal authorities on criminal matters—he urged the federal government and Congress to secure the border and cut violent crime.
