The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking the community to help find Wanda Davenport—an at-risk 49-year-old woman last seen on August 14 in the 3700 block of Marion Drive near North Academy Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a Missing Indigenous Person Alert for Mary Margaret Checketts, 31, who was last seen near Antlers Park on South Sierra Madre Street; she is described as 5'3" tall, 115 pounds with brown hair and green eyes, and she wore a black long-sleeve shirt + white yoga pants with flowers.
Colorado Springs Police and the FBI are searching in Teller County for human remains of Jepsi Kallungi—she disappeared in 2019 and her husband was convicted of first degree murder in 2023 while no remains have been found so far.
Lawmakers are holding a special legislative session today at 10 a.m. to seek nearly $800 million in budget cuts and require Gov. Jared Polis to meet with the Joint Budget Committee—requesting his spending reduction plan.
Polis has already announced a hiring freeze effective Aug. 27 and agencies must propose 2.5% cuts for upcoming fiscal years with a plan expected to be finalized shortly after the session.
Former Helen Hunt Elementary School in the Hillside neighborhood was converted into Hunt Family Housing, a 24-unit transitional complex for low-income families run by Catholic Charities—support services like caseworkers will help ease the move from homelessness and the first tenants are set to move in on Monday.
