- ➤ We Fortify, a nonprofit building tiny homes for young adults and low-wage essential workers in Colorado Springs, launched a $6.2 million campaign called The Power of We after state and federal grant delays — Ent Credit Union contributed $1 million over five years to support its 18-unit Working Fusion project, and the organization plans further developments if community donations follow. - ➤ Firefighters contained a small wildfire near Manitou Springs in the Crystal Park area on Sunday at around 12:30 p.m. with no injuries or structures lost, and its cause remains under investigation (according to the Manitou Springs Fire Department). KOAA News5

- ➤ Colorado Springs Police shared video of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 23 — the footage was released on Aug. 11. 11 News
- ➤ Two people died following a shooting Sunday afternoon at a home in the 4100 block of Sod House Trail in Colorado Springs—officers reported a man and a woman were found with at least one gunshot wound each—and police are investigating the incident. KOAA News5
- ➤ A Colorado Springs man, Brandon Hugney, was arrested on Sunday for starting a small fire behind an east side building near Wooten Road and Geiger Boulevard, marking his second arrest for arson in less than a month — he remains in custody on a $10,000 bond. 11 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Widefield School District announced a Housing for Educators program that will offer affordable homes for selected staff while local construction students help build the units. The project—led by Pikes Peak Habitat for Humanity and Careers in Construction Colorado—will include over 40 homes in the Rising Moon community with groundbreaking set for Oct. 6 and first units planned by early 2027. - ➤ The Front Range Passenger Rail District told the Colorado Springs City Council on Monday that a future train will take 1 hour and 45 minutes to run from downtown Colorado Springs to downtown Denver as I-25 congestion grows — the district shared plans for a pilot route from Denver to Fort Collins in 2029. City officials also learned that the project includes a station near America the Beautiful Park and that funding will partly come from new state fees while Councilmember Dave Donelson questioned how ticket sales will cover costs.
