  • Retired Fire Department Captain Patrick Rogacki died on August 1 after a long battle with cancer — his illness was linked to his work at Ground Zero after 9/11. The CSFD said he served for 35 years and that a private memorial service will honor his service with community members lining the streets.  11 News

  • Local business leaders are urged by experts like Dennis Natali and Jonathan Liebert to adopt AI tools and train employees to keep pace as technology reshapes customer service and operations.   • Federal agents raided a housing development in Black Forest on July 31 after a suspect's Dodge Ram reportedly tried to ram an officer, firing three shots and arresting one suspect+while another remains at large as the quiet community now sees fewer workers around.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Cheryl Bennett, 56, was found dead Friday in the 6400 block of Austin Bluffs Parkway—she was reported missing July 28 and the Colorado Springs Police Department said the Coroner’s Office has not yet determined her cause of death.  Colorado Springs Gazette

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Starting Oct. 1, Colorado Springs Utilities will launch Energy Wise time-of-day rates that use lower prices during off-peak hours and higher prices during peak hours—this change gives customers a fairer way to pay for electricity without a rate increase, with projections showing that 50% may see a lower bill if usage stays the same. The new system offers several rate options and includes tools like free audits and online monitoring to help manage usage.  Colorado Springs Business Journal

  • Vennita Browning has spent two decades guiding students and families in Colorado Springs through her role at Peak Education—mentoring over 400 students and working with groups like the Sachs Foundation and Kidpower. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Springs-based MossParker has scaled up its PFAS destruction system to break down forever chemicals into fluoride and carbon—handling up to 100,000 gallons of pre-treated water and serving clients like the Department of Defense and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The seven-person company recently partnered with Springs Fabrication and Seneca Federal Solutions and plans to expand its reach to clean water at sites such as Peterson Space Force Base and Venetucci Farms.  Colorado Springs Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A major construction stage on the Circle Drive bridge project will force closures on East Las Vegas Street and Hancock Expressway from Sunday evening to just after noon on Monday—drivers must take detours using Highway 85 North/Venetucci Boulevard, Janitell Road, Delta Drive, and South Academy Boulevard. The Falcon intersection will close for about 10 days and Ellston Street under I-25 is also closed from Sunday to Saturday for bridge deck work to improve safety.  Colorado Springs Gazette
