- ➤ El Paso County Parks has partnered with the Archery School of the Rockies (ASR) to offer free archery classes for veterans and individuals with disabilities at the Archery Range in Bear Creek Regional Park. Sessions are held on the third Friday of each month (1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) through September. El Paso County
- ➤ Natso Mini-Con will have two cosplay contests, geek vendors and local TikTok star Gino DePolo at WhirlyBall on Saturday — the free event will let him show off his 3D-printed movie props and teach costume-making skills — drawing fans from all over Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs Gazette

- ➤ The Colorado Springs Fire Department worked to control a basement fire at the Mining Exchange hotel on Thursday morning—forcing the evacuation of guests and staff—and closed parts of Nevada and Pikes Peak Avenues for safety, officials said. Colorado Springs Gazette
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Colorado Springs Police arrested Anthony Lopez on August 7th near N. Carefree Circle and S. Hammock Drive for having a suspected incendiary device—his vehicle was impounded after officers found he did not have a valid Colorado driver’s license. 11 News
- ➤ On Thursday morning, the DEA searched Village East Apartments on Hathaway Drive and seized fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, a handgun, and a large sum of money — five people were arrested for immigration violations and transferred to ICE. 11 News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Legal experts said the EPA does not have the power to stop Colorado from closing 11 coal plants and two coal-handling facilities, and state officials noted the agency’s proposal will not delay the scheduled shutdowns. - ➤ Beginning Monday, city crews will repair the Woodmen Road bridge over North Academy Boulevard and repave 1.5 miles of Woodmen Road with overnight work from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. — part of the 2C sales tax program— as drivers in northern Colorado Springs are urged to take alternate routes during lane closures. 11 News

- ➤ On August 7, Colorado launched a new 988 hotline—this service connects students with trained specialists for emotional, mental health, or substance use concerns around the clock. 11 News
- ➤ El Paso County Public Health urged residents to avoid wildlife after a bat that had human contact on Saturday tested positive for rabies on Tuesday— the exposed person is receiving treatment and officials advise reporting sick or injured animals. Colorado Springs Gazette
