COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Colorado Springs has scheduled several events on Pikes Peak in August and September, including a cycling hill climb on Aug. 9 that delays summit highway access until 9 a.m. (other activities include a challenge hike on Sept. 6, a youth fishing derby on Sept. 13, a summit closure on Sept. 20 until 2 p.m., a marathon on Sept. 21, and a sunrise opening on Sept. 27).  City of Colorado Springs
  • On Monday, Colorado Springs welcomed 13 junior high students from Fujiyoshida, Japan—part of the 34th student exchange—with two chaperones and representatives from the Japan America Society of Southern Colorado at City Hall. The students toured the building and talked with Mayor Yemi Mobolade and councilmembers about their ideas as emerging global citizens.  City of Colorado Springs

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local car dealerships in Colorado Springs said prices have stayed steady since April when a 25% tariff took effect—early high customer interest has since balanced out. Dealers are now watching for potential changes to tariffs on steel and aluminum that might lead to higher prices.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An El Paso County judge dismissed the citizen-backed lawsuit against the Pikes Peak Library District on Monday when he ruled that the board could not be reviewed over the Rockrimmon Library closure; the case is closed (it cannot be filed again).  KOAA News5
  • Colorado State Patrol will run DUI checkpoints in El Paso, Gilpin, Ouray and Archuleta counties from August 15 to August 23 as part of its 100 Deadliest Days of Summer campaign—local agencies will check drivers on designated highways to reduce impaired driving incidents.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • El Paso County uses its Community Development Block Grant program to fund neighborhood upgrades after projects are reviewed by a 12-member advisory board and approved by the Board of County Commissioners and HUD—CDAB meetings are held monthly with the next one on October 22 at 12:30 p.m. at the Economic Development Office on 9 E Vermijo Ave in Colorado Springs.  El Paso County

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pediatric doctors from Children’s Hospital Colorado visited Evans Army Community Hospital on Tuesday to train staff on treating critically injured children from local Fort Carson families. The simulation drill, which included care for a 5-year-old boy injured from a fall, helped sharpen emergency skills and strengthen communication between the two hospitals—ensuring quick care for young patients.  Colorado Springs Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Draper Commons, a multi-phase housing project in downtown Colorado Springs aimed at easing the housing gap for those earning between 30% and 120% of the area median income, is set to add nearly 500 affordable apartments. Sumner House is open with 95 units and construction on Phase Two, called Bristow House, will begin this fall if funding through Proposition 123 is approved — Phase Three at Lowell will start in Spring 2026.  11 News
