CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Prosecutors announced on Friday that no charges will be filed against Officer Noah Bartron after he fatally shot 41-year-old Matthew Kemper on October 8 in the 5100 block of Prairie Grass Lane when Kemper—covered in blood and armed with a knife—lunged at responding officers. - ➤ A suspect is on the run after allegedly robbing a bank in west Colorado Springs Thursday evening — police said the man entered the bank on the 3200 block of West Colorado Avenue near U.S. 24 and left with an undisclosed amount of money. Colorado Springs Gazette
- ➤ Officers responded to reports of multiple shots fired near Uintah Street and North 19th Street on Friday, Aug. 1, and after following a speeding vehicle on I-25 they arrested 28-year-old Justin Galan for Felony Menacing — no injuries were reported. FOX21

- ➤ Colorado Springs Utilities Water-Wise Demonstration Garden (located at 2855 Mesa Road) shows how low-water landscaping works by using plants that thrive with little water and educating locals on conservation. The garden is open every day and its lobby (open Monday-Friday at 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) welcomes visitors with answers to their questions. 11 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Several new Colorado laws will take effect on Aug. 6 to improve wildfire prevention, boost care worker wages, expand healthcare coverage, and allow a voluntary waiver for firearm purchases. The changes include measures that require local governments to clear dead vegetation (to reduce wildfire risk) and simplify Medicaid checks to better serve patients. FOX21
- ➤ CDOT said that several lanes on northbound South Academy Boulevard between I-25 and Milton Proby Parkway will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. to allow crews to remove safety barriers—additionally, the southbound I-25 off-ramp to westbound South Academy will be fully closed Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for earthwork grading and electrical work. 11 News
- ➤ Southbound traffic on Tejon Street north of Pikes Peak Avenue will experience a lane shift of about 200 feet from Monday through Friday—this change will allow crews to replace an aging water valve Monday overnight and move a fire hydrant late Tuesday night as part of the Tejon Street Revitalization Project aimed at improving outdoor dining, sidewalks and public safety. 11 News
- ➤ CDOT said that overnight lane closures will begin soon on northbound South Academy Boulevard near Security-Widefield as part of a widening project, with lanes closed from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday; the southbound I-25 off-ramp to South Academy will be closed Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. — drivers should follow detour signs —.
