Three people were injured in two separate vehicle crashes on Sunday in Colorado Springs; in the first crash just after 4:30 p.m., a scooter operated by Geramiah Vargas ran a red light at the southbound I-25 off ramp on Lake Avenue and was hospitalized with serious injuries, while at about 7:15 p.m. a motorcycle lost control near North Weber and East Bijou streets, injuring the rider (in critical condition) and a passenger (stable).
A Colorado Springs police officer, Sgt. Glenn Eric Thomas, had charges of victim intimidation and a protection order violation dropped on Monday—prosecutors said there was not enough evidence, noting the protection order was not active and a school official confirmed the child admitted to lying.
On Sunday evening at Broadmoor Towne Center off Southgate Road and Lake Avenue, employees and customers intervened when a shoplifter was stopped—prompting the male suspect to retrieve a gun from his vehicle and threaten to shoot—while both suspects fled with the stolen merchandise.
El Paso County deputies arrested 29-year-old River Merritt after he entered a caller's home near Simla on Saturday, July 26 in violation of a protection order and while carrying a knife that prompted officers to use a taser+ detain him on charges including criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Two Colorado Springs residents were arrested in Cañon City late Saturday, July 26 after deputies found 98 fentanyl pills and 7.5 grams of methamphetamine near the intersection of Humboldt Drive and Longs Peak Lane—both suspects were booked on multiple charges and later released on personal recognizance bonds.
