CULTURE NEWS

  • VisitCOS has launched a new page that highlights Colorado Springs’ less-visited places such as the art-rich Knob Hill neighborhood (east of the General Palmer Statue on Platte Avenue) to invite visitors to explore beyond the usual attractions. The initiative aims to support local artists and encourage longer stays while preserving the neighborhood's unique character.  Denver7
  • Cat Fest in Colorado Springs will offer hundreds of cats to meet, pet and adopt along with a TICA cat show, kitten yoga sessions and a cat video cafe at Norris Penrose Event Center on Saturday — social media influencer Nathan the Cat Lady and Springs native Cat Pluto will appear — and the event will support local rescue groups hosting adoption booths.  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Colorado Springs will begin work on North Chelton Road on Monday in front of Twain Elementary School near Marion Drive—lane shifts and bike lane closures will occur as the city reconfigures a crosswalk and updates a pedestrian signal, with the work expected to finish in two weeks.  11 News
  • Today Colorado Springs celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by highlighting improvements such as a nearly half-mile ADA-compliant trail at Garden of the Gods Park and accessible playgrounds at Panorama, Acacia, and Venezia parks. • On Thursday, the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners unanimously rejected permit requests from Xcel Energy for part of its $1.7 billion high voltage powerline project—citing concerns over wildfire risk along a 45-mile stretch near volunteer fire departments. Some local landowners reacted with mixed views as easement offers and potential job benefits remain under debate while construction continues in other counties.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • A new push by the 76 Group aims to change how Colorado uses vehicle taxes for road repairs after the state received a poor infrastructure grade from the American Society of Civil Engineers. The proposals, known as Initiatives 125 and 126, must clear the Title Board process and gather tens of thousands of voter signatures before they can appear on the November 2026 ballot+ the Colorado Department of Transportation warns the changes could cut money for transit and clean air projects.  11 News
