COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Operation Homefront hosted its annual Back-to-School Brigade today to give 600 military kids backpacks, school supplies and gift cards to help them start new schools and adjust to moves—local families and volunteers also helped make the transition easier.  KOAA News5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Colorado Springs police reported a fatal motorcycle crash occurred Saturday night at the 4100 block of Drennan Road near Springnite Drive when the rider was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene—officials are investigating the incident.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Police Department released body camera footage from July 5 showing officers fatally shot 26-year-old Alex Martinez-Sarmiento in downtown Colorado Springs after he ran from police following reports of a man carrying a rifle — two handguns were recovered and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office now leads the investigation.  KOAA News5
  • On July 5, officers responded to a 911 call near Mansion Nightclub on East Pikes Peak Avenue after a man carrying a rifle was reported and later seen with a handgun, and during the incident they fatally shot 26-year-old Alex Martinez-Sarmiento—police have released body-worn and downtown camera footage and started an investigation into the use of force.  FOX21
  • The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for help finding three missing children who were last seen on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the 6500 block of Antelope Run Circle—10-year-old Arbjon Domi wearing a red shirt, blue shorts and black and white Nike shoes; 8-year-old Elirjon Domi in a blue Nike shirt, tan shorts and black Crocs; and 7-year-old Leuart Domi in a black shirt, blue pants and blue Crocs—and anyone with information should call 7194447000.  KOAA News5
  • Colorado Springs police released footage of an officer-involved shooting that occurred downtown on July 5 — the case is under investigation.  11 News

  • The Colorado Department of Transportation launches its new 'Buckle Up — Someone Needs You' campaign this week to urge drivers to buckle up for their families, with posters in over 50 public venues and increased seat belt checks by local law enforcement for the rest of July.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Today, CDOT launched its 'Buckle Up — Someone Needs You' campaign to back the Click It or Ticket enforcement period from today to Aug. 1 and remind drivers to buckle up as 82 unbuckled occupants died in traffic crashes this year. The campaign partners with over 50 public venues to display safety posters while supporting state and local law enforcement efforts.  11 News
