CRIME NEWS

  • Jacob Root, who was left paralyzed after being Tasered during a 2022 foot chase, filed a state lawsuit in the 4th Judicial District on March 26 after his federal suit was dismissed—he alleges that officer Robert Comstock used excessive force without proper warning.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Melody Montgomery, whose daughter was killed in a dorm room double homicide in 2024, filed a lawsuit against UCCS alleging that officials disregarded safety warnings and failed to act on repeated complaints about a troubled student — the suit seeks unspecified monetary compensation to help care for her daughter's children.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • A Fort Carson soldier — 19-year-old Caden Meade — was arrested for kidnapping and sexual assault after a woman said her friend was forced into his pickup truck at Quail Lake last week; he is now in El Paso County Jail.  KVOR

  • Millibo Art Theatre—located in Colorado Springs since 2001—offers engaging theatrical productions and learning experiences for all ages. Its summer Ice Cream Theatre shows feature circus-inspired acts with ice cream sundaes included, and tickets cost $15 per person or $50 per family.  KOAA News5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Forest Service reopened Seven Bridges Trail from Gold Camp Road to the southeast corner of Jones Park after heavy rainfall washed out Bridge #1 in June — a detour now directs hikers to Bridge #2, and users are urged to check weather conditions before setting out.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • K9 Knox retired from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office after seven years of service and worked under Deputy Ronnie Hancock and Deputy Gregory Stoneham on over 250 deployments that led to more than 50 arrests and multiple major drug seizures in the Pikes Peak Region. He also contributed to school safety on 77 campus operations — and he will now retire alongside his longtime handler, Sergeant Gregory Stoneham.  KOAA News5
