CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs police said that Brandon Hugney, a 21-year-old at-risk man who ran away on July 13 and was found safe on July 14, was arrested for a grass fire on Space Center Drive and other fires over the past seven months—he now faces several arson charges.  FOX21
  • A 21-year-old man, Branden Hugney—accused of setting fires at an apartment on East Bijou Street in December, a car on South Union, a commercial building on Citadel Drive, and a grass fire on Space Center Drive—was arrested in Colorado Springs and is booked in Le Paso County Jail on charges of first degree arson.  KVOR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report by the Common Sense Institute shows that Colorado’s net migration fell nearly 53% over the last decade—40,000 fewer people moved here in 2025 and Colorado Springs dropped almost 29%—and it warns that high housing costs and an aging population may hurt the state’s workforce in the future.  Colorado Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Multiple fire crews from across the state, including a Colorado Springs wildland team, are fighting the Turner Gulch Fire near Gateway along Colorado Highway 141, which exploded overnight to more than 8,000 acres. The fire began on July 10 under red flag conditions (running near a 341-acre blaze) and has not damaged any structures while evacuation orders remain along part of the highway.  KOAA News5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The El Paso County Treasurer’s Office has launched a new option for residential and business property owners to prepay their property taxes in manageable monthly payments. The secure cloud-based program—charging $1 per e-check transaction and 2.5% for credit and debit card payments—provides eligible taxpayers with a flexible way to budget their expenses.  KOAA News5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amanda Farrell’s Sacred Space Therapeutics in Colorado Springs offers discounted alternative health care services with a monthly $30 fee that gives members a 40% discount on treatments such as acupuncture, Pilates, and spiritual counseling—an approach designed to prevent health issues before they grow. The center, staffed by 16 practitioners including a nurse practitioner, helps clients take a proactive stance toward their wellness.  Colorado Springs Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Colorado Springs native Anne Flower won the Silver Rush 50 Run in Leadville over the weekend. She finished the 50-mile race in just over seven hours and eight minutes, climbing more than 8,000 feet — reaching elevations above 12,000 feet.  FOX21
  • The Department of Defense's Warrior Games will return to Colorado Springs from July 18th to 26th to mark 15 years of empowering disabled veterans with 11 adaptive sports events, most of which will be held at Colorado College. A kick-off ceremony hosted by Jon Stewart will launch the games — additional events will take place at the Norris Penrose Indoor Event Center and Garry Berry Stadium.  Colorado Springs Gazette
