BUSINESS NEWS

  • Several Sonic Drive-In locations in Colorado Springs have permanently closed—one at 317 E. Fillmore St. closed on June 19 while three others on S. Eighth St., Garden of the Gods Road and Austin Bluffs Parkway also shut down. The company has not provided details on why the closures occurred or if more locations will close in the future.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs police arrested 21-year-old Brandon Hugney on Monday for setting several fires—charging him with first-, second- and fourth-degree arson as well as intentionally starting a wildfire—as the investigation continues into incidents that began in December 2024 and included a recent grass fire that endangered residents.  11 News
  • Colorado Springs Police are asking the public to help locate 21-year-old Brandon Hugney, a missing at-risk man last seen July 13 on the 1500 block of Tesla Drive near Palmer Park Boulevard and North Academy Boulevard who wore a white Colorado University t-shirt, red shorts, gray sandals, and red and black glasses—if anyone sees him, they should call 719 444 7000.  FOX21
  • The Fountain Police Department is asking for help finding missing senior citizen Donald Burrell, 86, who was last seen northbound on I-25 in Fountain driving an orange Chevy Avalanche (license plate 071VUF) and asks anyone with information to call 719-390-5555.  KOAA News5

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum opened a permanent Ute exhibit—Until Forever Comes: This is Ute Homeland—that shows the language, art, and history of three Ute tribes through beadwork, family photos, and interactive displays. The exhibit was built over five years with tribal partners to honor Ute traditions and clear up misunderstandings about their rich culture.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ramona Avenue at South Nevada is closed until mid-August for traffic signal upgrades and safety improvements; work began Monday at 7 a.m.—detours guide east- and westbound traffic while access to nearby businesses remains open.  11 News
  • MedRide reached a settlement agreement with the state that allowed it to resume transporting Medicaid patients on June 10th provided it meets state requirements—such as employing a compliance officer and improving driver and vehicle safety. The company had its Medicaid contract terminated in February after failing to complete background checks and maintain proper safety inspections.  FOX21
  • Crews are finishing the final repairs on southbound I-25 as part of the four-year Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvements Project, with a section closed later this week for overnight work on concrete panels and guardrail repairs. Additional detours on South Academy Boulevard and Ramona Avenue will force drivers to use alternate routes as safety and ADA upgrades continue—CDOT warns delays are expected.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Mayor Yemi Mobolade vetoed Ordinance No. 25-59 because he said the city needs $1.4 million from marijuana tax revenue for public safety and to help cover an $11.5 million budget shortfall—residents had urged more support through meetings and surveys.  City of Colorado Springs
