  • A family in Colorado Springs held the inaugural Pikes Peak Motor Mania auto show at the Audubon Center on Saturday to raise funds for Aedyn’s Backpack Club—supporting those who have experienced bullying or abuse. Organizers said the event featured fancy cars, vendors, and a silent auction and noted that more fundraising events are planned in the coming months.  FOX21
  • A local restaurant in Colorado Springs is hosting a supply drive to help Texas communities hit by recent floods, led by organizer Cass Cameron—a Southern Colorado mom with personal ties to the disaster. Cameron is gathering essential items such as baby formula, nonperishable food, and blankets over the next two weeks and partnering with Chuck Wagon 719 as the donation hub.  FOX21
  • County and regional fairs have begun this weekend in southeastern Colorado as communities hold events ahead of the State Fair in Pueblo, which will run for 11 days starting August 22.   • Yesterday morning, a rollover crash in rural El Paso County killed a 16-year-old teen from Castle Rock and injured three other passengers when a Nissan Pathfinder skidded off the road near North Peyton Highway—Pinon Park Road.  11 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kevin Brown—manager of the Cherokee Metropolitan District—said the district began designing a water treatment system to remove PFAS contamination after a year of testing real-world methods. He expects the facility for 18,000 customers to be online by 2029 or sooner and said the district will stick to its timeline even if federal deadlines change.  Colorado Public Radio

  • Ramona Avenue at South Nevada Avenue will close Monday, July 14 until mid-August for new traffic signals + ADA-compliant curb ramps and streetscape improvements under a city safety project. Drivers should follow detours via St. Elmo, Tejon and S. Nevada routes and use a nearby strip mall parking lot due to on-street parking restrictions.  KOAA News5
  • Officials at Pikes Peak Office of Emergency Management have begun using Ladris, an AI tool that simulates traffic flow to help plan wildfire evacuations — local fire and police teams have already trained on the software to find the best routes during emergencies.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Seventeen county sheriffs have urged Gov. Jared Polis to fix the backlog in DOC inmate transfers and raise the reimbursement rate for housing state inmates. The sheriffs said county jails are stretched thin — forcing them to shoulder extra costs and risking public safety.  Colorado Springs Gazette
