CRIME NEWS

  • On July 3, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office found a car along Highway 85 in Security-Widefield with two victims—a 16-year-old whose identity is withheld and 24-year-old Rylee Ferari—before arresting 23-year-old Eddie Lacharles Jackson at Denver International Airport, who now faces two counts of second degree murder on a $500,000 cash-only bond.  FOX21
  • Colorado Springs police are seeking community help to find a suspect who on Tuesday forced a female victim into a dark-colored extended-cab truck at Quail Lake Park and sexually assaulted her near a business on East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard (forensic sketches and photos have been released).  11 News
  • Jerome Scott, 62, is accused of detaining two runaway girls for several days — allegedly giving them cocaine, marijuana and alcohol and sexually assaulting them in an apartment on Victoria Street — while police will receive a tip just before 1 a.m. Friday and arrest him Saturday with his first court appearance set for Monday.  Colorado Springs Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Colorado Springs will host Taste of Pikes Peak on Thursday, July 18 in front of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, where over 80 local restaurants, breweries, and distilleries will serve food and drinks from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The festival will feature live music, a Sober Area, and a VIP lounge to support local culinary programs—celebrating the city’s food scene.  Springs

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Colorado Springs District 11 is expanding academic pathways by adding programs at Mann, West and Swigert middle schools starting in the 2025-26 school year to offer experiential learning, STEM and dual-language immersion. These additions join current offerings at Holmes, Jenkins, Sabin, Galileo and North (which include STEM, visual and performing arts, outdoor education, career and technical education and IB) to build on student strengths (a plan shaped by community feedback).  Colorado Springs Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The TSA and Colorado Springs Airport have partnered so that soon active-duty service members, their families, and Air Force Academy cadets will use TSA Precheck lines faster. The changes include a special screening lane on busy days and help for gold star families and spouses — with free enrollment for gold star families and a discount on fees.  KOAA News5
  • Advance Colorado is launching a ballot measure for the 2026 election that would eliminate state taxes on overtime pay and tips—if it passes Title Board review and gathers enough signatures. Gov. Jared Polis is also considering a special session that could move up the timeline for these taxes—raising concerns for working-class residents.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • Twenty Olympic athletes have begun arriving at Olympic City U.S.A. today to celebrate the newest inductees into the Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame — part of a weeklong community festival. The schedule includes a movie night today, an outreach day with clinics on Friday, and a breakfast panel plus induction ceremony on Saturday — with the Olympic and Paralympic Museum debuting a free exhibit featuring items such as destroyed medals from Gary Hall Junior.  FOX21
