CRIME NEWS

  • Colorado Springs Police are asking for help in finding a missing at-risk 13-year-old (James Kelvin Greer Jr.) who was last seen at 5 p.m. Monday near his mom's house on the 3900 block of Donney Brook Court near Cheyenne Meadows Road and Highway 115 and who may be with his missing 14-year-old sister Arianna Glory Majors.  KOAA News5
  • On July 5, illegal fireworks set the Estep family's small home ablaze near Lake Avenue as firefighters arrived by 12:20 a.m. and had the blaze under control by 12:50 a.m.—the family escaped with their children and pets and is now staying with relatives in Cañon City while working with insurance and police to salvage belongings and search for their missing cat Felix.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • A Colorado Springs woman was arrested after allegedly trespassing into three homes in the 600 block of Crown Ridge Drive + assaulting an officer when she kicked him during her Monday morning arrest.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Early Saturday morning, officers shot 26-year-old Alex Martinez-Sarmiento in downtown Colorado Springs after he allegedly reached for his waistband when he appeared to brandish a firearm near several nightclubs—he was pronounced dead at the scene while the investigation continues and an officer remains on paid administrative leave.  Colorado Springs Gazette

  • The 84th Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo will begin Tuesday and run for five days — offering live music, flybys, and professional contests that support local military families. Organizers urge fans to buy tickets and prepay for parking — as limited on-site lots and a downtown garage are available.  11 News

FINANCE NEWS

  • The Colorado Court of Appeals ruled that Netflix subscriptions are subject to state sales tax because digital products are now considered tangible property. The ruling reexamined the old law's use of 'corporeal' and sent the case back to a lower court — a decision that could change how streaming services are taxed.  Colorado Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • An independent report on Colorado Bureau of Investigations forensics said previous lab leaders ignored misconduct warnings—fostering a culture of fear that led to a DNA crisis which continues to burden current managers. The report from Forward Solutions detailed that staff now face a growing backlog and pressure to expedite work, risking established quality control protocols.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Colorado Springs City Council unanimously approved leasing the City Auditorium to a local venue manager who plans to restore the historic downtown building.
