COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 120 horses trotted downtown on July 5 during the 82nd Pikes Peak or Bust parade where 4,000 people cheered 55 colorful floats and enjoyed the popular stick horse races. The event officially kicked off the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo tradition since 1937 and honored local parade legend Nick Remmel — whose work spanned over 60 years.  FOX21
  • Downtown Colorado Springs saw a vibrant turnout today for the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Parade with horses, classic cars, people riding old bikes and a military helicopter flyover—continuing a tradition that supports military families since 1946. At the Air Force Academy, Professor Tom Bewley raised concerns about proposed civilian faculty cuts and said he would work with others to address the issue.  KOAA News5

CRIME NEWS

  • Early Saturday just after 1:30 a.m., officers in downtown Colorado Springs responded to a call about a man displaying a gun on the 100 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue—he ran while reaching for his waistband and was shot, and he died at the scene.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • The Colorado Springs Police Department is asking for help locating two missing-at-risk adults, Lucille Marietta, 87, and Charlie Marietta, 67, who were last seen traveling together near Cheyenne Mountain Resort on Friday, July 4 around 11 p.m. Lucille was driving a black 2020 Honda CR-V (license plate BBF-Q96) and anyone with information should call CSPD at (719) 444-7000.  FOX21
  • Authorities are looking for 14-year-old Sophia Muniz who went missing Friday morning near the intersection of Shelley Avenue and South Murray Boulevard by Trues Mill Park in Colorado Springs—she was last seen wearing a white top and shorts, is 5-foot-1 and 100 pounds, and anyone with information should call the police at 719-444-7000.  Colorado Springs Gazette
  • Early Saturday, police reported a suspected DUI crash on the south Colorado Springs Circle Drive bridge—affected by lane shifts from construction—that killed one passenger and seriously injured another when both were thrown from a truck; authorities suspect speed and impairment and arrested 20‑year‑old Chase Chason.  Colorado Springs Gazette
