- ➤ Many local military veterans received special recognition at the U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor yesterday despite heavy rain and severe thunderstorms. Military Appreciation Day events included a delayed Wounded Warrior Challenge — allowing veterans to reconnect and share their stories. KOAA News5
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Cimarron Hills Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a detached shed on Poteae Circle near Palmer Park Boulevard on June 25 at 3:49 p.m. and firefighters had the blaze under control by 4:20 p.m.—they stayed on scene to check for a possible electrical issue or lightning strike. 11 News

- ➤ CSPD K9 Zev, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, barked to make a motor vehicle theft suspect surrender near Airport Road and South Murray Boulevard on June 5 + later he made an aggravated robbery suspect surrender near North Nevada Avenue on June 17 + his work helped keep our streets safe. FOX21
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado law permits only non-explosive fireworks that stay on the ground—like fountains, spinners, and sparklers—and local agencies may enforce stricter bans from May 31 to July 5; penalties for using illegal fireworks include fines and jail time. FOX21
- ➤ The City of Colorado Springs is upgrading bike infrastructure to get top marks from the League of American Bicyclists—eight new trail crossings will be added this summer and Sinton Trail will get a new concrete path with safety improvements starting Monday and lasting until mid-September, weather permitting. Denver7
- ➤ Two new gun laws will take effect on July 1 that require additional live-fire training for a concealed carry license and a state-issued permit for gun shops with a $250,000 fine for noncompliance. Spartan Defense in Colorado Springs opposed the measures + they argued that federal oversight already covers these requirements. 11 News
- ➤ The Goldfield Drainage Improvements Project will begin construction on Monday, July 7 on Goldfield Drive between Fontaine Boulevard and Bradley Road. The project is expected to last about one week and will close the road at the culvert site — a detour is in place and drivers should reduce speeds in work zones. El Paso County

- ➤ At 7:00 a.m. today, top golfers will tee off at the U.S. Senior Open at the Broadmoor where officials expect about 130,000 fans over four days. Tourism officials say the event could boost Colorado Springs' economy by around $24 million — local businesses are preparing for the crowds. 11 News
